Spencer Peck, Lebanon resident and avid history enthusiast, came to the Franklin Township Committee meeting held on Thursday, September 11th, 2025, to advise the Township of his applications to the New Jersey State Historical Marker 250th Initiative program.  Said applications propose the placement of 14 markers commemorating the events leading to the December 1776 Battle of Trenton and focuses on the march of reinforcements General George Washington received to assist with ensuring the fight for the colonies’ independence continued after the defeat at Fort Lee.

Mr. Peck has requested that, given the unique position of the proposed Pittstown Marker, the Historians, Governing Bodies and Municipal Clerks of Alexandria, Franklin and Union Township’s coordinate their efforts to determine where the Marker would be located and provide Letters of Support for the application.  The Franklin Township Committee has unanimously expressed their support for the project and requested that the Letter of Support be composed and submitted before the application deadline of October 7th, 2025.
