STORM RECOVERY UPDATE – July 18, 2024

Posted on July 18, 2024

On Tuesday, July 16, 2024, beginning at approximately 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM, a series of storms rolled through the area and caused significant damage with downed trees and wires.  The most severe damage was reported to be around the Quakertown area, closing County roads and knocking out the power for approximately 1,040 residents.  Fire & Rescue crews from Quakertown Fire immediately responded to various incidents.  Due to the overwhelming call volume at the county dispatch center, Chief Bradley Patkochis mobilized an area command at Quakertown Fire.  QFC Area command provided DPW, OEM and PD with a portable radio to directly communicate with QFC units.  At the area command emergency responders had a list of available resources, a list of current incidents, and a list of closed roads.  Also, the QFC area command contacted agencies such as County Roads, JCP&L, and CenturyLink directly, due to the call volume at County Communications.

As of approximately 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, ten roads were closed in Franklin Township and 486 Franklin Township customers remained without power. Some areas in the county have an estimated time of power restoration as Friday, July 19, 2024, at 11:30 PM.  Township Emergency personnel and officials are are working with JCP&L to get crews to our area so we could have a quicker restoration.

As of 1:09 PM, Thursday, July 18, 2024, JCP&L has advised that 309 Franklin Township customers, predominantly within the Quakertown area, remain without power.

Should any resident experience an emergency, please call 911.

Cooling centers have opened countywide and Shoprite will be distributing water and ice on behalf of JCPL.

Finally, from JCP&L: JCP&L reminds customers to immediately report any downed wires to the company, or their local police department.  Customers should never go near a downed power line, even if they think it is no longer carrying electricity.  Extra caution should be used in areas where downed lines are tangled in trees or other debris.  To report downed wires or power outages, call 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877),
